Suggestions Please

With the summer sun rising earlier in the morning, our little Chase man has been waking up WAY too early for his mommy & daddy. Chase has been waking up between 5:45 and 6:00 am lately. We've tried everything we can think of to get him to sleep later: keeping him up later at night, hanging blackout shades, skipping his daytime nap (not an option ever again), giving him milk in the morning and telling him to lay back down, etc... Nothing is working! If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know!

Here is a video of Chase singing 2 of his favorite songs:

Well, pushing bedtime back NEVER worked for Libby. Skipping naps just made her miserable. She did follow direction well and at Chase's age we could just go into her room and say "it's not morning yet. I'll see you soon". We never picked her up and we never went into her room unless she was fussing or it was time to get up, which in our house is by 7a. But she also loves her alone time. Now, with Logan, I don't think this will fly. He doesn't even like to go down to bed awake yet (which Libby was a pro with by 6m much less by 9). We also sing a good morning song when we go into their room if it's time to get up. Maybe set an alarm clock with a children's cd and tell him its not morning until it plays. ???

Good luck! You'll have to let me know what works. I have a feeling we'll have this problem with Logan.

Umm. . .I seem to remember some little kid waking up at the crack of dawn to watch "Pinwheel" EVERY FREAKIN' morning! I think it's in his blood.

I have not found a solution for early waking during the summer either and I have been trying for almost 5 years now! My kids always start waking between 5:45 - 6:15 during the summer too. I have just resigned myself to being sleep deprived for the next 10 years, sorry :(

I like Bridget's idea about the CD, but at Chase's age I don't know how much that would help you. He will probably destroy his room or cry and that doesn't help you sleep either. Good luck!!

Sorry, Kaden's doing the same. I've been trying everything too. We've pushed his bed time back, and I thought it caught up to him because he started sleeping til 7am again. That doesn't seem to be the norm though because he wakes at 6, 6:15, or 6:30 sporatically still. He will play in his bed by himself til we get up to get him though so that is ok. I hang out for a while before getting him.
